Object Summary

Flora of China

Title of object

Flora of China

Object description

The diversity of plant species in China is extraordinary. With an area almost exactly that of the continental United States, China has nearly twice as many plant species, about 31,000 or one-eighth of the worlds total, versus only about 20,000 for the U.S.A. and Canada combined. This number includes about 8,000 species of medicinal and economically important plants and about 7,500 species of trees and shrubs. The Flora of China describes these species.
